Profemur Complications & Defects

Wright has marketed, manufactured and sold the Profemur hip system since 2003, and thousands of patients have received this device. Since this device was originally designed and distributed, the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery has issued a watch for modular hip components due to pervasive reports of wear and corrosion. Consistent with industry expert concerns, Profemur hip implants have been prone to corrosion, fretting and micromotion, oftentimes producing catastrophic fracture events.

Fractures from Defective Hip Devices almost always require immediate hospitalization for revision surgery to have the failed Profemur system removed and replaced with another safer hip implant.

Wright Profemur Lawsuits

The first Profemur fracture lawsuit was tried during June of 2015 in Los Angeles Superior Court and resulted in a recovery of over $1 million to that injured patient. That lawsuit was just the first of over 1200 lawsuits involving Wright’s defective hip implants awaiting trial in federal and state courts across the country. While that recovery is encouraging to all individuals injured by malfunctioning Wright hip implants, it must be remembered that the award amount was reached after the jury’s review of facts specific to that patient’s case and that not all Wright hip implant lawsuits will yield similarly-sized recoveries.
